Bc. Filip Schätz

Chief Field Volunteer

I am a student of ecology at Charles University. I have been helping with our organization's activities since 2021, when I made my first trip to Chad, Africa. Since then, I have been focusing on conflicts between humans and large mammals such as hippos and elephants. I won't hide the fact that I am a big fan of solving such problems with electric fences. In fact, I have already fenced more than 100 hectares of fields in Africa. My life motto is "Fence the elephant, save the tree" - Philippians 11:34. Such activities require the involvement of local communities, so most of the time in Africa you will find me in villages, where my colleagues and I devise activities leading to sustainable community development that goes hand in hand with nature conservation. My favorite proboscideans are mammoths, and my specialization includes expertise in the ecology of feather beetles—the smallest beetles of all—which I compensate for with activities related to the largest mammals. I am a lover of brass music and a member of youth organizations such as Junák - Český Skaut and GYBN (Global Youth Biodiversity Network). In addition to my activities abroad, I am involved in educating the younger generation in Czech schools as part of CCBC projects.
