Ing. Tadeáš Šíma

Traveler and writer

I was born in 1992 in Prachatice, not far from Šumava. Seventeen years later, I set out into the world for the first time and hitchhiked across Europe. I studied Crisis Planning and Management at the Czech Technical University in Prague and in the meantime managed to go on a few expeditions to Iran and Kyrgyzstan. Then I bought a bike and rode across Africa along the west coast. A year later, I returned to Congo to help protect nature and installed camera traps in the jungle on poachers' trails.

I then cycled across the Arabian Peninsula and later also Central America with a light parachute. I had the opportunity to see the world from the 5,000-meter peaks of Damavand, Kilimanjaro, and Pico de Orizaba.

During my travels, I founded the charity project Pohled pro Adama (A View for Adam). On my travels, I take photographs and seek a sense of freedom. I like to return home to southern Bohemia, where I have a small apiary by the forest and a cottage in Třešňový Újezdec.

In 2020, I published a book called Na kole přes Afriku (Across Africa by Bike), which was nominated for the Hanzelka and Zikmund Award for the best travelogue of the year. I give lectures about my travels in theaters, cultural halls, and schools. In 2024, I published my second book, Doma na cestách (At Home on the Road), and a year later, a collection of haiku called Papilární linie (Papillary Lines).
